History

Queer Youth Uganda (QYU) is a youth LGBT-led community based organization that was founded in 2006 and registered the 12 th of March 2013. We are working to improve the living conditions of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual and Transgender people in 23 rural and Peri-urban districts of Uganda to curb stigma and discrimination.

The organization formerly started as a social group bringing together all LGBT youths in Kampala rising out of the growing homophobia, discrimination and attacks inflicted on fellow LGBT persons by the general population. This was a result of the hate crime campaigns as promoted by the religious, cultural and political leader’s social media tub Blogs like Red Paper, The Sun, Bukedde, and Rolling stone newspapers.
